The video above from Glamorgan Cricket Club tries to explain it.
Why don't people like the idea?
The decision to create a new format of cricket, with teams based in just seven major cities, has split opinion between traditionalists who favour the historic county cricket structure.
One Lancashire Cricket fan said at the time
"Why can't the ECB just invest in the formats we already have? The various Twenty Twenty competitions that they've organised have been mostly successful and should be expanded on."
A Twitter account named 'Love cricket - Oppose The Hundred' was set up. This is one of their rcent tweets.
Before the opening Test @benstokes38 had gone nine months without bowling in Tests & 5 months without bowling in first-class cricket. Being used to bang the ball into the pitch halfway down virtually every ball he now has a side injury. There’s a surprise #clueless pic.twitter.com/oCi6zGs67C

Who's in favour of it?
Many current players are actually in favour of the new format being created.
England's current Test captain, Joe Root, welcomed the ECB's plans, believing it would attract a completely new audience to the game. England's ODI and T20 captain, Eoin Morgan has expressed a similar opinion.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain was also in favour and believes it could be very exciting.
What happened in the first tournament?
The inaugural tournament took place in 2021 and gave equal weight to both men's and women's sides. Most of the matches took place as back-to-back double-headers at the same venue on the same day, with tickets giving access to both the men's and women's games. These were the sides that took part:
- Manchester Originals - Old Trafford Cricket Ground
- Northern Superchargers - Emerald Headingley Cricket Ground
- Birmingham Phoenix - Edgbaston Cricket Ground
- Trent Rockets - Trent Bridge
- Welsh Fire - Sophia Gardens
- London Spirit - Lord's Cricket Ground
- Oval Invincibles - The Oval
- Southern Brave - Rose Bowl
After an interesting tournament, Southern Brave were eventually crowned champions of the men's competition.
Oval Invincibles came out on top of the women's competition. They beat Southern Brave in the final by 48 runs.
